I bought the lock to keep people from sitting on my bike when I'm at work. Well, you can sit on the bike... and even lift it off its side stand and still not set the lock off.... but give it a good jolt... or start rolling the wheel and your ears will hate you! The earlier version of this lock was a little too easy to set off... and this one could use more sensitivity... XENA just has to find a happy medium... 5 stars for the alarm... 4 stars for function. No doubt in my mind that the alarm would go off if someone tried to move the bike into say... a van...so the peace of mind is wonderful  Constant False Positives, This review is from: Xena XX-6 Disc Lock with Alarm - Yellow The idea of this lock is great. The reality of this lock is terrible.I lock my scooter up in an outdoor lot behind my condo complex. Roughly a week ago, after owning this lock for roughly a month, it started triggering false positives like crazy. That is, the alarm would sound, even though nothing touched it. I know this, because I've sat there and observed it. Sometimes it'll be 15 seconds after it arms, other times it will be 15 minutes. And it's totally random. The alarm will go off for 10 seconds, shut down, wait a variable period of time, then be triggered again. But other times it wont go off at all, and operate as advertised. This type of inconsistency makes it unusable. There is no wind trigger this. No rain. Scooter is on level ground. I've locked the lock many different ways. I wanted some extra security but I didn't realize this thing would make annoying noises all the time. The sensor that senses when the lock is engaged is very sensative sometimes the alarm would go off if my reminder chair got too close to it. I ended up just taking out the battery and using it as a regular disk lock. |
