That being said, I always like my levers pointing down and forward a bit anyway as I am in a standard / adventure seating position while riding, and like to ride with a few fingers covering the brake.In this setup (levers pointing maybe 30 degrees down from horizontal) and with the guards pointing straight horizontal, these guards mount up nicely and the levers clear without being trimmed (as they come up and in from the bottom). The aluminum is thick and stout. The plastic parts are not removable (well, you could cut them off, but they aren't going back on), and the plastic is a bit soft. So while they will probably show some wear quickly, they won't break, and if I go down I'll keep my hands on the bars with confidence.
